Services

MigrationLabs takes on technical work that existing tools do not cover cleanly and that matters too much to improvise. We can own a piece of work end to end, or take the part of it your team does not have the capacity to carry.

Capability categories

  • Advisory

Establish what the work actually involves, and what a correct outcome looks like, before anyone commits to it.

    • Survey the environment as it stands, including the parts nobody documented
    • Define measurable requirements and what a correct result has to satisfy
    • Identify the cases that will not resolve cleanly, early, while they are still cheap
    • Produce a plan with a scope, a sequence, and a definition of done
  • Engineering

Build purpose-specific software where existing tools are not enough, and where the result has to be defensible.

    • Build for the requirement in front of us rather than bending a tool to approximate it
    • Make the work repeatable, so it can be run again and reviewed instead of reconstructed
    • Handle the difficult cases explicitly instead of letting them pass quietly
    • Hand over working software and the documentation needed to operate it
  • Implementation

Deliver the work inside the environment the organization already runs, at the pace that environment allows.

    • Work within the systems, constraints, and operating practice already in place
    • Deliver in stages that can be reviewed, rather than in one pass that has to be trusted
    • Integrate with what the team already uses, without a platform they are obliged to adopt
    • Coordinate with the people who will own the result once we are finished
  • Technical operations

Run and support what was built, and hand it over in a state the team can carry without us.

    • Operate the work in production and stay accountable for how it behaves there
    • Watch for the failure modes the environment actually produces, not the ones assumed
    • Transfer operation to the team that will own it, with the documentation to do so
    • Stay reachable through the period after handover, when the real questions arrive

How an engagement runs.

The same four stages, whatever the work. Each one ends with something you can read and disagree with before the next one starts.

  1. Assess

We look at the environment as it stands and tell you what the work actually involves, including the parts that will not resolve cleanly.

  2. Specify

We agree in writing what is being built and what counts as a correct result, before anything is built.

  3. Build

We build in stages you can review as they land, rather than in one pass you have to take on trust.

  4. Verify

The implementation is checked against the requirements agreed at the start, and you receive the result of that check rather than an assurance.

Ways to work with us

End to end · A defined phase · Alongside your team · Advisory only

Which of these fits depends on where the difficulty actually sits, and that is usually clearer after a conversation than before one. If you are not sure which shape you need, describe the problem and we will tell you honestly whether it is something we should take on.

Tell us what you are working on.

Describe the problem, the constraints you are working inside, and the deadline. We will tell you what the work involves, what we would need from your team, and whether we are the right people for it.
